tapematic IDM II

Covid-19 has changed many consumer habits, this is certain, but it’s also had a strong impact on the industrial world which has become aware of the need for some profound changes.  Changes like digitalization, internalization of processes, and greater control of the supply chain.

These needs have been taken into account by Tapematic Spa, the Ornago-based company (MB) that designs and develops industrial machines of the highest quality entirely in-house. In the last ten years, production has been focused on UV varnishing and metallization lines for packaging, mainly for the cosmetic industry, although the company has also had success in the beverage, pharmaceutical, and automotive sectors.

IDM II: HOT STAMPING, LASER DECORATION, UV COATING

Building on its success with the automated PST LINE I and PST LINE II and sensing the development potential on the market, Tapematic has been working on a system that is able to combine hot stamping, laser decoration, and UV coating – processes that can be carried out in a sequence without having to move pieces around manually and with the possibility to customize every object thanks to a variety of decoration options and insertable data.

This new project materialized at the end of 2020 and takes the name “TAPEMATIC IDM II” – an acronym for “Inline Decoration Module”.

INTERNALIZILING

The pandemic has made operators more aware of the need to check the “key areas” of the business and in particular, the supply chain,” explains Antonio Scotti, VP Sales for Tapematic.

Internalizing the development of “key” components of a product means reducing the risks and increasing the quality of the final product. Offering companies the possibility to have more control over the aesthetics of cosmetics packaging is the challenge that we wanted to embrace and face with TAPEMATIC IDM II. IDM II is the innovative modular decoration system that is completely automated. With the new IDM II, users can create countless decorations and customize each object by inserting variable data into the system. Furthermore, it’s possible to apply a protective overcoating immediately on the product, using UV varnishes to increase the overall performance by preventing possible damage by manual manipulation while also enhancing the aesthetics with an amazing shiny effect”.

INTERNALIZING MEANS INCREASING THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT

The internalization of some of the production phases is something that interests all categories of cosmetics, but in particular, products that are part of the prestige segment; those that, more than others, need to have impeccable aesthetic finishes. Tapematic IDM II allows for the minimization of product manipulation during the hot stamping, laser, and varnishing phases, hence, also minimizing the margin of error. There’s more: IDM II also allows for more sustainable manufacturing. Fewer steps mean less waste and more efficiency.

Like the PST Line, the new Tapematic IDM II is comprised of different modules dedicated to different phases of the decorating process,” continues the Manager.

Cleaning and pre-treatment, hot stamping on the side of the object, hot stamping on the top of the object (both the side and the top can be done at the same time), laser incision on the lateral side that was hot stamped (this option is available by request for the top as well). This system makes it possible to generate any type of decoration and/or, the most important thing, it allows for the addition of different data on each piece being processed (for example, a different QR Code for each item), making them unique. Not only. In addition, IDM II’s modular structure guarantees maximum flexibility and the possibility to create customized systems that meet the needs of each single customer”.

DEMONSTRATIONS ONE-TO-ONE

Developed during the months of the pandemic, IDM II is now ready to make its official debut on the cosmetic market. With this purpose in mind, Tapematic has installed an IDM II line at its headquarters in Ornago (Monza and Brianza) which is available for customers to organize one-to-one demonstrations on. It’s the perfect occasion to interact with the system and see its potential first-hand. Stay tuned!
