Muller & Koster’s journey into the world of fragrances and essential oils started 75 years ago, bringing perfumery to Italy when the company was founded in Milan in 1945.
With its headquarters in Italy and an R&D lab in Grasse in the heart of the perfume industry, today Muller & Koster is a gleaming example of a family-owned company.
Its business is concentrated on the planning, development, and production of synthetic fragrances, essential oils, aromas and natural fragrances for the cosmetic and make-up world. An example of how it’s possible to grow, transform, and evolve without leaving behind a sense of identity and values.
The common thread that ties together 75 years of history at Muller & Koster is characterized by evolution, modernization, and technological development. They are elements that have shaped every aspect of the company’s essences, from technical implications to compliance with regulations, up to the elimination of allergens.
The numbers tell a tale of success built upon working with passion and professionalism day after day, year after year: from 1945 to today, Muller & Koster has launched more than 35 000 new fragrances, 140 essential oils, and many other scents for cosmetics in a variety of versions and with specific anti-allergenic characteristics.
“The work carried out in these last two years has repaid our efforts, we’re here to stay and we demonstrate this every day,” says Stefania Pezzi, CEO Muller & Koster.
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PRODUCERS IN ITALY
In 2008, the company built a new, bigger and more modern production site in Liscate, just a few km from Milan, equipped with an advanced robot for the production of fragrances that is able to automatically weigh over 400 raw materials.
Over time, a second robot named Roxane GT was added alongside Roxane A, the former being amongst the largest in Europe and able to weigh 365 raw materials. The company also added an automatic plant for the production of essential oils, resulting in a manufacturing output of over 50 000 references of aromas for cosmetics, natural fragrances, and essential oils.
THE GREEN SIDE
In 2019, the company reached an important goal: in order to meet the growing requests of the market for more eco-friendly products, Muller & Koster expanded its portfolio with over 300 natural fragrances that are Natrue and Cosmos certifiable.
That same year, the fragrance and flavor company also focused on an important renovation of its production spaces and on Italian research: the “new” manufacturing site which is being developed over an 8 000 sqm area and is equipped with two new, advanced laboratories, was thought up and designed specifically for efficiency, growth, and sustainability.
The objective is two-fold: to push for digital transformation and increase efficiency through digitalization and, at the same time, to strength business models linked to the new concepts of natural fragrances, allergen-free options, and sustainable products with a particular focus on Natrue and Cosmos certifications.
SANITIZERS TO COMBAT THE COVID19 EMERGENCY
During these months of the pandemic, Muller & Koster has been at the forefront of the battle alongside the general public and its needs, taking up different initiatives to counter the diffusion of the virus.
Specifically, the company’s team of fragrance technicians worked for weeks to develop a series of essential oil mixtures with proven antibacterial and antiviral properties for hands, surroundings, and fabrics to be used in sanitizing gels. A concrete gesture that has given back hope through these difficult times and helped all of us claim back a piece of our freedom
