The Fine Foods Group is an independent Italian Contract Solutions Development & Manufacturing Organisation (CSDMO) specialising in the contract development and manufacturing of products for the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. Anchored by family governance and ownership, facilitating a distinctive competitive advantage that supports long-term vision and agile decision-making, and listed on Euronext STAR Milan stock market, Fine Foods has been a Benefit Corporation since 2021 and a member of the UN Global Compact. In 2025, the Group reported revenues of over €250 million, confirming the strength of its diversified and sustainable business model.

The Group’s three Business Units (Nutra, Pharma and Cosmetics) represent its diversification and are the Group’s distinctive, key assets. As diversification across three business sectors provides structural stability and resilience for the top lines, their integration enables the Group to anticipate emerging trends and translate them into cross-category solutions. One example is the blending of cosmetics and food supplements.

Thanks to this approach, the Group has built long-standing partnerships with leading international companies, including Alfasigma, Angelini, Chiesi, DOC Pharma, Dr. Max, Giuliani, IBSA, Italfarmaco, Menarini, Orion, PepsiCo, Perrigo, Pharmamanutra, Recordati, Sandoz, Sanofi, Teva, Towa, Uriach, Unifarco, Viatris and Zentiva.

We spoke to Stefano Bocchieri, Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer for the Group.

How important is it for Fine Foods Group to introduce itself as a CSDMO rather than simply a CDMO?

Being a CSDMO reflects a strategic approach that reaches far beyond manufacturing. It means being a true provider of solutions, offering integrated support throughout a product’s entire lifecycle. We are the experts behind the scenes who really make a difference; the scientific and production partner working alongside brands to convert ideas and market needs into successful commercial solutions.

Given our expertise in formulations, technological innovation and cutting-edge manufacturing, we are fully able to support customers stay well ahead of the game by delivering solutions that span pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and cosmetics.

Following the acquisition of two cosmetic companies in 2021, the Group managed to expand its presence in the beauty sector by complementing its nutraceutical expertise with sound cosmetic know-how, now managed by Fine Cosmetics. This evolution has laid the foundations for a more integrated approach towards beauty, aligned with the rise of nutricosmetics and the growing demand for solutions that work from within and also on the skin.

The synergy between our Nutra and Cosmetics Business Units has resulted in our Beauty In&Out vision, born as a model to combine food supplements and cosmetic products in coordinated programmes address, able to address the needs of more modern consumers much more broadly. The approach reflects a beauty evolution towards an increasingly holistic and science-backed concept direction towards wellbeing.

Contrasted with the approach used by the pharmaceutical sector, which tends largely to be focused on the pure transfer of technology, a nutraceutical and cosmetics approach begins with identifying market trends and unmet consumer needs, and only then designing custom-made solutions with an option to personalise them even further.

This model allows us to support customers along their entire innovative journey of their product – from concept development to large-scale production – by combining our multidisciplinary expertise with a reliable, advanced industrial platform. This means building value through an ongoing partnership that can support customers with strategies to help them respond to changing consumer behaviours and evolving market dynamics. From Needs to Solutions.

The importance of both the food supplements and the Nutra business unit is reflected in your production facilities – one of the most important in Europe…

Absolutely! Nutraceuticals are the Group’s core business. In 2025, the Nutra Business Unit’s revenue was around €136 million, accounting for 54% of the Group’s total. Its portfolio includes probiotics, multivitamins and minerals, products supporting immune system health, sleep and relaxation, the gastrointestinal system, circulation, bone, joints and urinary systems as well as women’s health, beauty, healthy ageing and mental wellness.

The synergy between topical and systemic treatment is, in your case, fully expressed in this intrinsic approach and already integrated among your Business Units….

Exactly! Our in&Out approach was developed as a response to consumers seeking a 360-degree approach to beauty and wellbeing, particularly in search of solutions that address the root causes rather than only surface treatments. The In&Out market is experiencing strong growth, with a product launch strategy that is much more coordinated: initially centred on hair, nails and anti-ageing, it now branches out into new categories. This confirms the growing demand for integrated, holistic wellbeing.

On the product side, could you give us a few examples of some products that were developed with this In&Out philosophy?

We note, these days, that there is considerable interest in categories in which the combination of nutraceuticals and cosmetics deliver the consumer with tangible benefits.

Haircare is among the most important. Our skin and hair exposome treatment addresses the daily, cumulative impact of the environment on both skin and hair. Nutraceutical capsules combined with topical cosmetic treatments can provide a real synergy of multilevel protection.

Demand for oral care is also rapidly moving towards an approach of In&Out oral wellness. Our solution brings together an oral spray with a chewable tablet – two complementary actions that can support the oral microbiome while promoting fresher breath, adding together functional efficacy into the daily routine.

Longevity is another particularly exciting trend currently redefining the very concept of beauty and wellbeing. For this, we develop integrated solutions designed to support healthy ageing by a combined approach to work both inside and outside the organism.

The GLP-1 phenomenon (Glucagon-like peptide-1, appetite and glycemia hormone regulator) is transforming the health and beauty market. How does Fine Foods fit into this evolving landscape?

The growth in use of GLP-1 therapies is giving rise to new consumer needs that reach far beyond weight management alone. What’s emerging is significant opportunities to design comprehensive programmes that support consumers throughout their weight-management journey – ranging from natural alternatives and “companion” products to post-therapy weight maintenance solutions.

No longer are consumers only focused on weight, but they are also want to preserve muscle mass, maintain overall wellbeing and support skin quality. These considerations are becoming far more important, particularly when there is a substantial loss of weight.

In this situation, food supplements can help support the body’s nutritional needs and also keep up overall wellbeing while topical treatments and cosmetics play their complementary role sustaining the quality of skin during and after weight loss.

Looking ahead, what are the key megatrends that are reshaping the health and beauty industries? And how does the Fine Foods Group support its customers with turning them into real innovation opportunities?

At the moment, wellbeing is evolving into a more preventative vision, focussed on the quality of life in the long term. One of the most important megatrends is longevity – not simply living longer, but maintaining energy, functionality and overall wellbeing over time, including having a healthy-looking skin.

Another central trend is metabolic beauty, accelerated by the GLP-1 phenomenon. This is shifting the focus away from weight loss alone and moving towards a broader balance between body composition, muscle mass and skin quality.

Also gaining momentum is holistic beauty. This integrates nutrition, skincare and emotional wellbeing within one single vision. We are also seeing a growth of research into more sophisticated sensorial cosmetic experiences, where innovative textures and engaging product experiences are becoming key value drivers.

Personalisation, prevention and the In&Out approach – which combines nutritional supplementation with topical skincare – are also becoming increasingly important trends.

To sum up, in this landscape, our role as a CSDMO is to partner strategic innovation that interprets market signals and translates them into product development strategies, each aligned with a brand’s desired evolution. By offering integrated market insight, formulation expertise and industrial development capabilities, The Fine Foods Group fully supports its clients with the anticipation of consumer demand and by bringing value to the entire cosmetics and nutraceutical supply chain.
